Important Information Regarding Hearing and Vision Screenings for the 2020-2021 School Year from the WA Board of Health

(updated Feb 2021)Preview

The Washington Board of Health has provided important information regarding your child(ren)'s vision and hearing screenings. Please see the links below to documents provided for parents of students who are distance learning.  These documents encourage parents/caregivers to watch for signs/symptoms of the possible visual problems in their child(ren).  It is important to keep up on your child(ren)'s well-child exams to ensure they have had the appropriate auditory and visual exams.
Shelton School District's plan is to offer vision and hearing screenings to in-person learning students, once they begin attending school on site.  As dates of screenings are scheduled, the dates will be advertised on the school's websites and social media.

 Today’s Health Services team

Today’s Health Services team in the SSD consists of eight Health Room Assistants (HRAs) and two Registered Nurses who work daily to ensure students are safe at school. Health rooms function to offer first aid to students who become ill or injured while at school. The HRAs are the heart and soul of our health rooms, the faces many of the students and parents associate with the health rooms, and the extension of the eyes and hands of the School Nurses. The HRAs are often confused as being the School Nurse. That leaves many people asking the same question: “What do the School Nurses do?” They do many things, but one of the most important things they do is review student’s health conditions and ensure students are medically safe to be at school. Keep your eye out for future News from the School Nurse to find out more about what school nurses do in their everyday roles.
