Shelton School District & Community Hall of Fame Purpose, Criteria, & Guidelines
Purpose
The purpose of the Shelton School District & Community Hall of Fame is to recognize students/alumni, faculty/staff, friends/benefactors and community members who have contributed to the success, tradition, integrity, development and promotion of the Shelton School District and/or excelled in the areas of Athletics, Fine Arts, Academics and/or Business and have achieved a high level of excellence deserving of recognition.
Eligibility Criteria for Inductees
- Students/alumni, faculty/staff, friends/benefactors and community members are eligible for nomination and induction.
- Student nominees will be considered for induction into the Shelton School District Hall of Fame 10 years after their class graduation.
- Shelton School District Employee nominees will be considered after 15 years of service to the Shelton School District.
- Nominees must have demonstrated good citizenship and meritorious service to the Shelton School District and/or the community.
Categories for Nomination
To be eligible for nomination a candidate should have distinguished themselves and/or shown great leadership at the local, state, national, and/or international level through their chosen careers or vocations, who have made distinguished contributions to Shelton and/or society through their work or donation of time.
Induction to the Shelton School District Hall of Fame may be considered in one of the following categories:
- Athlete
- Coaches, Athletic Staff Members, and Other Athletic Support Person
- Teams and Groups
- Friends and Benefactors of the Shelton School District
- Shelton School District Faculty and Staff
- Fine Arts, Academics, and Business
- Humanitarian and Service
- Lifetime Recognition
Hall of Fame Class Size
The Hall of Fame committee is not obligated to induct a specific number of people or groups into the Hall of Fame each year. The committee may forgo inducting any nominations received if they choose.
The Hall of Fame Committee MAY consider the following criteria as well as other factors in reviewing nominations:
Athlete
- Elements considered when inducting Athletes:
- Made significant contributions in athletics
- Won league, District, State Title or a member of a team that did.
- Received All-League, All-Area, or All-State honors.
- Placed in the top 8 at a WIAA State Tournament
- Competed in multiple State sports and/or competed in multiple State Tournaments
- Participated in post-high school athletics (collegiate, professional, recreational)
- Holds school record (s)
- Lead a major statistical category in League or State
Coaches, Athletic Staff Members, and Other Athletic Support Persons
Elements considered when inducting Coaches and Athletic Staff Members:
- Made a positive contribution to the overall Program they participated in
- Had a positive impact on the student-athletes with whom they coached
- Inducted into a county, state, or National Hall of Fame
- Served on the State/National Coaches Board for a sport
- Won one or more League Titles
- Won one or more District Titles
- Won one or more State Titles
- Coached multiple sports
Teams and Groups
Teams and Groups are eligible for nomination if:
- Won a State Title
- Achieved significant success at a State Competition.
- Won a District Title
- Achieved a 75% or higher winning percentage during competition
- Excelled in competition if an activity is non-athletic
- Has made significant contributions to the Shelton School District
Friends and Benefactors of the Shelton School District
Any individual or group who:
- Supports the Shelton School District through time, service and/or financial contributions.
Distinguished Faculty and Staff
Any Administrators, Teachers or Staff Member who:
- Has exhibited exceptional leadership, character and/or achievement during their time in the Shelton School District.
Fine Arts, Academics, and Business
Any individual who:
- Has excelled and/or established themselves as an amateur or professional at a local, state, national or international level.
- Has distinguished themselves with excellence and acknowledged leadership in their chosen field.
- Has had a significant impact for good in the Shelton School District.
Humanitarian and Service
Any individual or group who:
- Has exemplified excellence and leadership and/or service to the community, state, nation or world.
- Is recognized as having had a distinguished career and/or accomplishments in the line of duty.
- Has made significant contributions in public service.
- Has had a significant impact for good in the Shelton School District.
Community Member
Any individual who:
- Through working with the Shelton School District has helped contribute to the betterment of programs and/or growth of programs.
- Has made distinguished contributions to Shelton and/or society through their work or donation of time.
Lifetime
- Any individual who:
- Has demonstrated courage in overcoming extraordinary obstacles in life; or
- Has or had a substantial influence on the students in the Shelton School District; or
- Has distinguished themselves and/or shown great leadership at the local, state, national, and/or international level through their chosen careers or vocations, who have made distinguished contributions to Shelton and/or society through their work or donation of time; or
- Has lifetime achievements, and/or significant accomplishments in the community, state, nation or world.
- Has had a significant impact for good in the Shelton School District.
Hall of Fame Selection Committee Members
The Shelton School District Hall of Fame Committee shall consist of at least eight committee members. Committee members are asked to serve a two or three-year term. Terms will be staggered. Membership of the committee will be comprised of the following:
At least one Shelton School District administrative designee
At least one member of the coaching staff (current and/or retired)
At least one member of the district teaching faculty
At least three community-at-large members
A quorum of five must be present in order to conduct business.
Hall of Fame Selection Committee members will serve at least a two-year term but may remain on the committee indefinitely if they so choose.
Hall of Fame committee positions will be advertised throughout the community via the district website, E-Community Links, posters, and any other form of advertisement possible. People interested must submit an online application.
The standing committee will review persons interested in participating in the Hall of Fame. New members will be appointed with a majority plus one vote of the committee quorum.
The committee must promote active engagement with individuals who broadly represent the demographic character of the Shelton School District.
In the naming of members, the committee shall take special care that the membership reasonably reflects the diversity of the students in the district and the citizens in the community. The administrative designee shall advise the committee of statistics and other information to help with this goal. The committee shall post an invitation to participate in locations that are frequented by all demographics of the community such as laundromats, convenience stores, and tribal newspapers.
Amendment Process
This document may be amended, once annually, by the Hall of Fame Committee with a majority plus one vote from the Hall of Fame Committee members present during voting.
