Learning Assistance Program (LAP)
LAP is a state-funded program that offers supplemental services for K–12 students scoring below grade-level standard in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. These services focus on accelerating student growth to make progress towards grade level and addressing barriers preventing students from accessing core instruction. They may include academic readiness skill development or behavior supports. The intent is for LAP-served students to increase academic growth during the period of time they are provided services.
The assessments used in Shelton School District to qualify students for LAP include Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) and easyCBM.
School Role:
Identify your child’s needs
Determine if the student needs LAP services by reviewing data to determine if the student is below grade-level in ELA and/or math using multiple measures.
Select, monitor, and adjust the service(s)
Work together to create a LAP program based on best practices that will meet the needs of the student. Implement academic and nonacademic supports, and monitor the academic progress of the student to make sure the student reaches their goal.
