Multilingual English Learners in Shelton Schools

Mission

The district’s K-12 Multilingual English Learner program is designed to develop competency in English as rapidly as possible in order to provide a language base for the regular curriculum. The program focuses on developing oral proficiency with the integration of reading and writing as the student progresses through the various stages involved in acquiring a new language.

Vision
All students will have access to rigorous, relevant content. Multilinguals will be supported through English Language Development services responsive to their needs and English language ability by a qualified team of staff. Students’ assets will be acknowledged–linguistically, culturally, academically, social-emotionally–and leveraged in their classrooms to create safe and welcoming environments for our multilingual students.

Please review schedules, requirements, and information for dual language enrollment here.
